Catalog notes
Checklist #453, unlabeled bridge group between Section 39 FACES and Section 40 BOMB (see photo-0437 note). LIFE (publication), American, 22 x 17 1/4 cm. Fourth David Duncan plate in the checklist; count verified by grep this session against three prior plates at photo-0124 (#130, Iran, Section 14 Land, LIFE/American, 36 x 46 1/4 cm), photo-0177 (#185, Palestine, Section 16 Work B, LIFE/American, 18 x 14 1/2 cm), photo-0339 (#358, Saudi Arabia, Section 27 Death, LIFE/American, 20 x 25 3/4 cm — the out-of-order plate printed on page 16). First Duncan plate set in the USA in this catalog; the prior three were set in Iran, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia — all four plates credited LIFE/American. The PDF page 24 image (read this session) prints the entry verbatim as ‘453 U. S. A. David Duncan, LIFE, American 22 x 17 1/4’. The ‘David Douglas Duncan, 1916-2018, best known for his combat photography of the Korean War and his portraits of Pablo Picasso’ biographical line on photo-0124 is NOT re-verified against any fetched source this round per CLAUDE.md anti-confabulation policy. Section assignment to sec-hardship-suffering-war per photo-0437 note (structural inference, not a printed section assignment).
