Catalog notes
Checklist #505, Section 15 WORK (A) (out-of-numerical-order). Black Star (agency), Swedish, 14 x 11 cm. The PDF page 9 image (re-read this session, 2026-05-02) prints the entry verbatim as ‘505 Belgian Congo Lennart Nilsson, Black Star, Swedish 14 x 11’. This is the first of the two out-of-range three-digit plates that interrupt the 1-503 numbered sequence (the other is #506 — see photo-0489, USA, William Garnett, in Section 14). #505 is positioned within Section 15 after the in-section plates #142-#167 (with #145 and #149 missing per the printed checklist), and immediately before CAPTION 14 (Bhagavad-Gita, ‘Install below 155’) and the Section 16 break. Whether this out-of-range numbering reflects a late addition, an internal reorganisation that didn’t propagate through the typed checklist, or a deliberate convention is not stated by the document. Third Lennart Nilsson plate in the catalog (count verified by grep this session against two prior plates: photo-0059 at #63 Mothers and Babies, Belgian Congo, Black Star, Swedish, 75 x 37 1/2 cm; photo-0256 at #267 Section 23 Food, Belgian Congo, Black Star, Swedish, 16 x 16 cm — note the recurring Belgian Congo + Black Star + Swedish credit triple, fully consistent across all three Nilsson plates). Section 15 WORK (A) mapped to sec-work per the section-cluster scheme. The pre-existing photo-0160 note flagged the existence of #505 in the catalog but did not seed it; this row closes that gap as part of the catalog-completion reconciliation pass. Final row count after this batch: 490 plate rows = 503 numbered slots − 17 missing-number gaps (counting bare #11) + 1 (#11A unique row) + 1 (#404A added) + 2 out-of-range three-digit plates (photo-0489 + this row). See research/catalog-reconciliation-503.md for the canonical full derivation.
